The Live Music Show - New Wave Of British Heavy Metal
curated by Kate Mossad
NWOBHM, the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, was massive in the UK from 1979 to the mid '80s. Perceived as being popular solely with lumpen, uninhibited, denim-clad youth (New Oxford American Dictionary example of 'lumpen'!) it was virtually ignored by the mainstream media. With no MTV and only three TV channels the only exposure available was Top Of The Pops which, reflecting the Top 30, featured many NWOBHM bands, usually miming to a bewildered studio audience waiting for Shakin' Stevens or Adam and the Ants. If there had been a show it would have been huge and would probably have looked something like...
Avenger - Under the Hammer
Tank - (He Fell In Love With A) Stormtrooper
Diamond Head - Streets of Gold
Tygers of Pan Tang - Love Don't Stay
Rock Goddess - My Angel
Samson - Vice Versa
Demon - The Grand Illusion
Quartz - Wildfire
Saracen - We Have Arrived
Heavy Pettin' - Victims of the Night
Wrathchild - Stakk Attakk
