1. Godflesh, 2010, Live & Interview
The Godflesh reunion reached its zenith as Broadrick and Green returned to Birmingham’s industrial landscape to level all and sundry with their bleak, tumultuous riffery. An absolute pleasure and a performance none present would forget in a hurry!

2. Goblin, Live 2009
Legendary Italian prog-rock outfit Goblin played their first live show in the UK for over 32 years at Supersonic 2009, a mind melting set that had prog fans and horror movie aficionados weeping with delight!

3. Thorr’s Hammer, Norge 2009
In an extremely rare opportunity for doom fans, Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley resurrected their early band Thorr’s Hammer, featuring the inimitable Runhild Gammelsæter’s incredible vocals.

4. King Midas Sound, 2010
Producer Kevin Martin is no stranger to the Supersonic stage, appearing several times over the years under various different guises. This triumphant King Midas Sound set got the crowd moving and reaffirmed the infinite power of a heavy bassline!

5. Pierre Bastien – 2010
French composer and surrealist inventor Pierre Bastien has been building musical machinery since the 1970s. His delicate, minimal music created from meccano and pocket trumpet has delighted audiences worldwide. Sharing the bill is Małe Instrumenty, a fantastic five piece orchestra of toys and small instruments from Wrocław, Poland.

6. Swans – I Crawled, Supersonic 2010
Micheal Gira’s recently reformed Swans obliterated the Custard Factory’s Warehouse stage with this incendiary set in 2010, one of the band’s first live outings in over a decade! The band drew heavily from their incredible comeback album ‘My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky’ and also transformed a few old classics, including this ominous rendition of the snarling ‘I Crawled’.

7. Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite Interview, 2010
Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite kindly took the time to talk us through why Supersonic is one of his festivals, and why he’ll turn up even if he’s not playing!

8. Supersonic 2010 in 90 seconds
A quick round-up of all that happened at 2010’s edition of the festival. Squeezing three full days of music, art and performance into a minute and a half is quite a tall order though, so pay attention – a single blink could cause you to miss around 4 bands!

9. Bardo Pond – Supersonic 2011
Melancholy psych-rock masters Bardo Pond tore a hole through the crowd’s collective pineal gland in 2011!

10. Zombi – Supersonic 2011
In just 5 years, the Supersonic Festival had grown significantly, reaching a much wider audience and blossoming into one of the most respected and unique events on the UK festival circuit. Compare the scale of Zombi’s 2011 performance to their set in 2006 and you’ll become aware of how much the festival has expanded!

11. Electric Wizard – Witchcult Today, Supersonic 2011
2011 was the festival’s biggest year yet, branching out into new venues and treating the audience to one of the most eclectic and incredible line-ups so far. Mike Watt, Cut Hands, Wolves In The Throne Room and Scorn all brought their uniquely individual sounds, and Electric Wizard led us all down a dark path to a doom-saying set in the way only the Wizard can!

12. Circle – Supersonic 2011
Finnish madmen Circle put in a typically outlandish set last year too, on a much grander scale then their 2006 performance!

13. Mike Watt, Supersonic 2011
Godlike Minutemen bassist Mike Watt also performed last year, whipping the audience into a frenzy with this incendiary set!

14. Home Of Metal – Tony Iommi Interview
Birmingham is often rightfully regarded as the birthplace of Heavy Metal, a point which is emphasised by Capsule’s tireless Home Of Metal project. Capsule spoke to Tony Iommi, the Godfather of Metal himself, about the city’s musical heritage.

For one weekend each year Digbeth’s arches vibrate with strange, wonderful sounds as the Custard Factory becomes the focal point for one of the UK’s most distinctive and respected music festivals…Supersonic Festival.
2012 marks the ten year anniversary of this dynamic, constantly challenging, experimental, multi-disciplinary arts festival, which identifies the otherwise indescribable connections between contemporary music, art, performance and film. To commemorate this impressive and very special milestone this year, Capsule propose to work with Supersonic alumni and emerging artists to celebrate the achievements of the festival thus far whilst also focusing firmly on the contemporary. Because as well as giving a warm welcome to many influential, era-defining artists over the years, Supersonic always has an uncanny knack for highlighting new acts before everyone else is talking about them.
As ever, Capsule’s programme has a sense of spectacle at the very heart of it, always aiming to capture the imagination of the audience, and with a friendly, bustling atmosphere to boot, there is little wonder why the festival draws fans, performers and industry folks from across the globe.
