1. Katy Perry for Victoria's Secret
Katy Perry doing "Firework" at a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show back in 2010 gives me the stand up hair effect on the back of my neck. Especially because Victoria's Secret essentially stands for the polar opposite of everything "Firework"(and indeed Katy herself!) is about, so it's almost like a thumb in the cheek to the awfulness that is the most anachronistic public display of feminine sexuality we have in North America. And I know that as a Katycat I'm completely biased, but every time I see Katy perform "Firework" live I'm even more convinced that she believes every word of what she's saying. Can I get a resounding "awwwwww"?
2. Karen O "Duet" from Stop The Virgens
Stop The Virgins was my favorite Karen O thing ever, but then I think every Karen O thing is my favorite Karen O thing. I've previously seen Karen perform with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and she's simply commanding, with this gorgeous charisma that just makes you want to tongue kiss her or at least feed her grapes and fan her while she tells you fairytales. I couldn't find any footage from Stop The Virgins, but this video of her singing "Duet" from the Psycho Opera live for radio is just as impressive, albeit without the amazing costumes
3. Kelly Clarkson singing "Since U Been Gone" at the VMAs in 2005
I think this is the best live performance done by anyone ever, especially because there is rain. IT'S RAINING INSIDE, GUYS.
4. Nicki Minaj on "Bossing"
I know she's not performing but she's talking to the camera live, and she's like, a music person or whatever, so I'm putting this in. Nicki Minaj's metaphor about gender equality as pickle juice is absolute genius.
5. Sophia Grace & Rosie on Ellen
On the Nicki Minaj note, if you're not on the Sophia Grace & Rosie bandwagon then toot, toot, jump aboard! This video of the girls meeting their idol should make you cry. If it doesn't you're dead inside. Also, I'm sorry for making you cry. Not sorry for potentially calling you dead inside.
6. Bobby Brown dropping drugs on stage
What's that you dropped at 1:14 Mr. Brown?
7. Miley Cyrus covering Bob Dyan on Jimmy Kimmel
I know what you're going to think of me after you read the next sentence but I don't care. Miley does it better than Dylan.
8. Frank Ocean "Bad Religion" on Fallon
Showing everyone else how live performance is done, and knowing it.
