Jaco Pastorious — Portrait of Tracy
Live Music Show - Son of Cataclysm
Berlin doomsayers Son of Cataclysm deliver a truly special, surprising, odd and awesome live music show!
Total Runtime: 1:15:31
Son of Cataclysm in its first series, Artifacts of the pre-Apocalypse, embraces the premise of the end of the world and sets about cataloguing the warning signs. The website Sonofcataclysm.com hosts an ever-growing series of primary sources, photographs and original projects by Easton West.
Musically, Stewart Walker has developed a new palette of processed instruments based on electric guitar, bass, and drums which he folds into baroque orchestrations as he once did on his Persona Records label. Only this time the music is composed with more expressionist noise and urgency; spanning Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief: denial, bargaining, anger, depression, and acceptance.

Beautiful solo, I love how the notes sound semi-random until the song "Portrait of Tracy" begins to cohere. The coda of feedback adds a strong exclamation point to what came before.
E.S. Tüür - Architectonics III just learned about E.S. Tüür last week at the Berlin Philharmonic as was amazed at the variety of harmonic textures and immediately tried to learn more about him by searching vids on YouTube
Masonna 襲来!Nobody shreds harder than this guy. Primal screaming with no guitar or drums. I laugh in pleasure at the intensity of the performance, though if I was in the audience I might get frightened and run back to the bar.
古筝 Guzheng - 袁莎 Yuan Sha plays 冥山 Ming ShanI was entertaining the notion of similarity between American hammered dulcimer, Hungarian Cembalom, and Chinese Gu-Zheng. It's fascinating to see a similar instrument re-imagined in different cultural context. Yuan Sha is a master performer with great dynamics control.
Q-Bert - Lamb ChopsThe word turntablist (or controllerist for that matter) is ugly, but watching Q-bert finesse 1000 unique sounds from one voice saying "fresh!" is radical.
Stewart Walker - LiveI rock too.
Hermeto Pascoal - Música da LagoaWho wouldn't want to have a flute/bottle jam while floating in the Rainforest? I love how this bit of music is so rhythmic yet completely tonal. I once saw another video of dude playing his beard.
Sun Ra Arkestra - Shadow World (Live In West Berlin)Not only is the music crazy good … the timbre, rhythm, etc … but it also happened right in our hood. Wished we could have been there.
Angaangaq - The QuilautI saw this man perform once at the Volksbuehne in Berlin. He's about 4.5 feet tall but can produce sound with his voice that would fill your entire neighborhood. We dubbed him the "Ice Wizard". When he speaks to you, he holds his hand over your heart and stares so deeply into your eyes you don't even have to hear what he's saying to know what he's talking about.
Invocar - al MilagroI dunno what exactly is happening here musically but I just love the theatrical approach. Anvils? We need them in the studio. There is also something about white robes that means artistic integrity.
Sao Paulo Underground - Concert w/ klubie Firlej WrocławI love tight as fuck funky drummers. Two of them. Mixed with an assortment of insane musicians playing a cascade of tones.
Fugazi - Long DivisionI love sloppy as fuck funky drummers. Mixed with a horrible singer..
Hot Water Music - TurnstileSweaty, swampy, punk music. Growing up in Florida, going to a Hot Water Music show was like a rite of passage. I once saw a grown man start crying while they played the breakdown to this song.
