Airing on June 7, 1986, The Great Heep was television special spun off from the animated series Star Wars: Droids, which followed the wider adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO. The special's plot, in which the robotic pair struggles to free a planet from an monstrous machine that feeds on Astromech droids (like R2!) for sustenance, takes place between the ninth and tenth episodes of the 13-part series, and between episode III and episode IV of the film series. Unsurprisingly, given Star Wars sprawling, endlessly detailed universe, characters and locations in this special, and the series in general, pop up in the prequel films and several novels. Gladly, C-3PO is voiced by Anthony Daniels, who portrayed the protocol droid in the films; R2-D2's voice, presumably, is imitated.
